The growth in online shopping and banking has been matched by increasingly widespread risk. Financial motivation has led to an explosion of tactics designed to trick users into divulging their usernames, passwords and other confidential information which can then be used to commit a wide range of crimes based on identity fraud.

A typical goal is to clean out the victim’s bank account, but the information is also often used to help phishers commit further fraud or gain unauthorized access to networks.
