Although the RFU is a registered Industrial and Provident Society, it is being managed to PLC standards with all the inherent accountability and responsibility. Therefore, a robust financial management system is crucial in supporting its continued growth and safeguarding
the welfare of the game throughout England. In 1997 the RFU decided to replace its ageing DOS-based accounting system Multisoft, which had limited features and was unable to cope with the needs of an expanding organisation.
