This paper considers how a traditional network infrastructure can drastically reduce the efficiency and agility of a business and increase IT complexity. The answer to this is a flatter network, reduced from three tiers to just one. This can reduce hardware and maintenance costs, as well as improving business agility (a major goal of those surveyed).
This paper explores why legacy network architectures are rigid, and hinder the progress of technologies such as virtualisation, cloud computing and SOA. Read to gain a better insight into the topic and to help inform decisions about reducing IT complexity.
