Despite the potential risks of high-profile user downtime, with appropriate planning and
testing, migration to Exchange 2010 can be a smooth process.
Microsoft provides powerful online tools which can be used to calculate requirements and
provide the migration team with step-by-step procedures.
However, the scale of the task for a large organisation with many hundreds or thousands of users, possibly spread across different time zones, is not to be underestimated.
Any IT department planning a migration should devote appropriate time and resources to
undertake thorough information gathering, including a physical floor-walk to discover hidden
usage cases which could cause disruption later.
