Admonishing organisations about the valuable nature of their data has become somewhat passé: most companies recognise that their data is intrinsically valuable, on a par with their people,cash and physical assets, such as buildings and machinery.

However, to realise this value data must be managed. Unmanaged data is at best a waste of storage resources. At worst it is a real danger to an organisation because decisions based on erroneous data can lead to disaster, causing financial and even physical harm.
