The off-premise private cloud: the third way for agile business

An exclusive Computing survey of SMBs reveals that confusion still reigns over the cloud, which may be preventing some strategists from capitalising on many of its advantages. IT decision-makers want to run a tighter ship and support an agile business.

But organisations of every size find that their plans can be sunk by the dead weight of on-premise technology. The need to constantly upgrade and maintain in-house servers can be a drain on capital finances, especially for small-to-medium businesses (SMBs). Faced with this problem, many IT managers opt for one of two solutions:

• building an on-premise private cloud (which leaves them with many of the same internal challenges)


• handing over control of their IT estate to a third party
